Francis Monyango is tech law and policy researcher based in Nairobi. He has experience in internet governance and digital rights with a special interest in privacy and data protection. Francis was in the past a research assistant at the Centre for Intellectual Property and Information
Technology law (CIPIT) at Strathmore University. While at CIPIT, he researched on blockchain, intellectual property, e-commerce and digital rights issues, wrote and presented research papers, assisted in teaching ICT law and curated Jadili (an online legislative public participation
Monyango has been an ICANN 59 Next Gen fellow and he has also presented at the 62nd Africa Commission meeting, RightsCon Toronto, University of Toronto's CLSI and most recently, IFF Valencia. His current research interests are data protection compliance, privacy by design and commercial concepts, freedom of expression online and e-commerce in Africa. During his free time, Francis enjoys the game of rugby, engaging in D.I.Y projects, the outdoors, backpacking and playing with his dogs.
