Oona Castro has been working as the content coordinator and institutional relations for Instituto Nupef. She holds a masters degree in Communications from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She led the Brazil program of Wikimedia Foundation between 2012 and 2014, and acted as a consultant for Open Society Foundations between 2015 and 2016. She was also executive director for Instituto Overmundo from 2007 to 2012, having managed projects within large communities which produce open knowledge and culture for over seven years. Before that, she had been the project leader for Open Business researches at the Center for Technology and Society in the Law School of Fundação Getulio Vargas, working with flexible copyright regimes and new business models. She also worked as communications officer for government organizations, such as the City Hall of São Paulo, the largest city in Brazil, and in British governmental bodies such as the British Council and the Visit Britain in Rio de Janeiro. She's been a volunteer of Intervozes – Coletivo Brasil de Comunicação Social since 2003, promoting and advocating for communications rights.
